Yesterday I wrote my first article about using Chat GPT for all sorts of tasks. Today I wanna talk more about it, specifically about the product documentation part for a little online store that I own and manage with the help of a friend.

It’s a startup, still in infant stage, getting around 2 sales per week but it’s normal because we don’t have too many products listed. Around 400 and 90% of them have been added manually, no CSV imports.

To be honest this article was written, or better say inspired by a little frustration that I have related to online car parts industry. Compared with the tech niche, the auto niche is lacking data. There are no good vendors from where you can pick your information, our product distributors don’t have CSV’s with product documentation, images or any data to make this process more automated. That’s why I have to work a lot in adding them manually, to create good SEO descriptions, to manually parse data and extract the specs I need and such.

So how do I use Chat GPT to help me with the documentation part? It’s actually very simple.

First step is to properly document one product on the website. We’re going to call this a product model. It was originally written in Romanian but I will publish the English translation here (i also used Chat GPT for that because I am a lazy fellow).

Than I prompted Chat GPT with the following input:

Then I provided Chat GPT with the text model from my website.

And finally I then feed it the new data about a new product.

After that, Chat GPT automated the process by replacing the technical data for the model with the new data from my prompt. You can use this over and over, but you have to be very careful about the data your providing.

There’s no universal model that can work with different product categories. This model was meant for car oils, you can’t use it for coolants because you need different product attributes. But if you work smart, Chat GPT can also help you with that.
